Hybrid This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Cole Engineering Center Tower, Warren MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]

Role :

As a senior buyer in the Construction & Paint Shops commodity, you will be responsible for managing the sourcing of various services including, but not limited to, new facility construction, paint shop construction, equipment installation, roofing, paving, architectural engineering services, building modifications, and demolition for GM facilities in North America. 

Primary responsibility is to develop and implement sourcing strategies by working with key stakeholders in North America and strategic suppliers. This role requires a high level of strategic planning/thinking, independent judgement, and a focused customer-first mindset.

Major Duties and Responsibilities :

Lead effective relationships with stakeholders in the Infrastructure & Corporate Citizenship (ICC) and Manufacturing Engineering organizations to achieve key deliverables in Safety, Cost, Schedule, & Quality.

Candidate is responsible for developing commodity strategy, pipeline management, business over time, engagement with stakeholders and suppliers.  Work is complex, requires initiative, and is analytical in nature. 

This includes sound understanding of required program lead times, supplier lead times and capacities

Ability to learn and develop strategies based on changing market developments, market pricing and technology trends

Utilize GP&MS Sourcing Process (Request for Quotation, Analysis of Quotation, Source Selection) to establish a capable/competitive supply base

Manage all aspects of supplier relationships, including performance evaluations, issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Monitor market, industry & corporate trends to ensure proactive sourcing & implementation of services in support of employees and customers

Ensure compliance with GM policies, corporate programs, legal requirements, and industry standards in all purchasing activities

Additional Description

Required Qualifications

5 years of post graduate experience in supply chain, purchasing, logistics, program/product development or product management

Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

SAP experience or ability to learn purchasing systems

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Highly proficient communication skills

Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals 

5-10% travel Domestically

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
